
Overview: The Cape Coral-Fort Myers MSA is comprised of Lee County, which includes the cities of Cape Coral, Fort Myers, and Bonita Springs. Cape Coral-Fort Myers is one of the leading Florida MSAs with respect to personal income growth and population growth.
Education: Established in 1997, Florida Gulf Coast University is the MSA’s local state university, offering numerous graduate and undergraduate programs. Edison College offers associate degrees at four area campuses. Other institutions with a presence include Barry University, International College, Nova Southeastern University, and Southwest Florida College. The area also has two high tech centers that specialize in vocational/technical training.
Infrastructure: The I-75 corridor provides easy access to Tampa in the north and Miami to the east. Southwest Florida International Airport, located in Fort Myers, provides non-stop air travel to many domestic destinations and international destinations. It is one of the fastest-growing airports in the nation in terms of passenger volume. The airport is also home to one of two foreign trade zones, the other located at Page Field, a general aviation airport. For transportation by water, the Okeechobee waterway serves as a link between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Rail transportation is available from Seminole Gulf Railway.
