Deltona Daytona Beach Ormond

Overview: Located northeast of Orlando, the Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach MSA is comprised of Volusia County, which includes the cities of Deland, Daytona Beach, and Port Orange. Known for possessing one of the nation’s most famous beaches and international speedways, the region also contains a growing medical device manufacturing and biotechnology cluster. Much of this high tech growth can be linked to the fact that this MSA forms the eastern edge of the Florida High Tech Corridor, which stretches from Daytona Beach to Tampa.

 

 

Education: Several education options are available to meet the needs of the MSA’s current and future residents. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, located in Daytona Beach, provides aviation-aerospace education that has been ranked number one by U.S. News & World. Stetson University, located in DeLand, is one of Florida’s oldest providers of private liberal education, offering several undergraduate and graduate programs. Daytona Beach Community College is also within the MSA, and offers associate and bachelor of applied science degrees. Other institutions located in the area include Bethune Cookman College, Kaiser College, the University of Central Florida, and several vocational/technical schools.   

 

Infrastructure: Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach MSA is accessible by two major interstates. I-95 provides easy access to Miami, 234 miles to the south, or Jacksonville, 97 miles to the north. I-4 permits easy access to Orlando, 40 miles to the west, and Tampa, 105 miles to the west. Air transportation is available at Daytona Beach International Airport. The airport’s three major domestic carriers provide non-stop flights to several major international gateway cities. The airport is also a foreign trade zone. Orlando-Sanford International Airport is an hour drive away, while Orlando International airport is 1.5 hours away. Three general aviation airports also service the MSA. Port Canaveral, operated by the Canaveral Port Authority, is the nearest deep-water port, followed by the Port of Jacksonville to the north. Rail transportation is available via CSX or Florida East Coast Railway.

 

Business Environment: Along with the sand, sun, and surf, several manufacturing firms, including numerous medical device manufacturers, call Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach home - in fact, 33% of the total manufacturing workforce is involved in medical devices. Additionally, a regional U.S. FDA office is located nearby in Maitland, Florida. Several industrial parks are under development to meet the needs of expanding commercial/industrial growth.
