Road Map 2004 2012

The 2004-2009 Roadmap to Florida's Future, a five-year statewide Strategic Plan for economic development, was developed through a collaborative effort of more than 1,000 stakeholders, including business, education, government and economic development leaders at both statewide and regional levels. Eight regional meetings and a special meeting on Global Business Development helped solicit input from Floridians across the state.

The Roadmap highlights the following 8 priorities for focused implementation:

  1. Ensure Florida's global business leadership.
  2. Establish Florida as a leading state for entrepreneurship, innovation and venture capital.
  3. Ensure excellence in education and workforce.
  4. Ensure the competitiveness of Florida's business climate.
  5. Create a stimulus strategy for Rural Areas of Critical Economic Concern.
  6. Retain and strengthen Florida's base in threatened industries.
  7. Develop an expanded "smart growth" agenda for Florida.
  8. Invest in economic development.

The Roadmap has four components:

  1. Diversifying Florida's Economy: Priority Recommendations
  2. Appendix 1: Florida's Economic Competitiveness: Key Comparative Benchmarks
  3. Appendix 2: Stakeholder Perspectives
  4. Recommendations Submissions by Organizations
