The 2004-2009 Roadmap to Florida's Future, a five-year statewide Strategic Plan for economic development, was developed through a collaborative effort of more than 1,000 stakeholders, including business, education, government and economic development leaders at both statewide and regional levels. Eight regional meetings and a special meeting on Global Business Development helped solicit input from Floridians across the state.
The Roadmap highlights the following 8 priorities for focused implementation:
- Ensure Florida's global business leadership.
- Establish Florida as a leading state for entrepreneurship, innovation and venture capital.
- Ensure excellence in education and workforce.
- Ensure the competitiveness of Florida's business climate.
- Create a stimulus strategy for Rural Areas of Critical Economic Concern.
- Retain and strengthen Florida's base in threatened industries.
- Develop an expanded "smart growth" agenda for Florida.
- Invest in economic development.
The Roadmap has four components:
- Diversifying Florida's Economy: Priority Recommendations
- Appendix 1: Florida's Economic Competitiveness: Key Comparative Benchmarks
- Appendix 2: Stakeholder Perspectives
- Recommendations Submissions by Organizations
