Below are several of Florida's well-known British companies:

• Atlantic Scientific Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of MTL Instruments Group, was founded in 1977 and is located in West Melbourne, Florida. Atlantic Scientific designs and manufactures surge protection devices for a wide range of applications.

• Barclays Capital Bank is the second largest foreign banking agency in Florida, with over $4 billion in assets. The Miami office is active in financing trade between Latin countries and U.S. exporters and importers. Over 90% of the Miami office’s transactions are international.

• The BBC, the media giant from the UK, has an office located in Coral Gables.

• BPB America, Inc is a subsidiary of BPB, a London-based building supplies provider. From its U.S. headquarters in Tampa, BPB Celotex provides a full line of acoustical ceiling and gypsum board products via a wide-reaching, customer-focused presence in the North American interior finishes market.

• British Airways is one of the world’s largest airlines, serving destinations in over 90 countries. British Airways maintains several daily non-stop flights between the UK and major Florida hubs, as well as a travel reservations center in Jacksonville.

• Christie’s Fine Art Auctioneers, the world most renowned auction house, provides appraisals, valuations and auctions of items. Christie’s has a representative office in Miami since 1988.

• EMI Music Publishing Latin America, the Latin music and entertainment arm of the EMI music conglomerate, has its headquarters in Miami, FL. EMI Music Publishing Latin America publishes music from artist such as Ricky Martin (Puerto Rican) or Jorge Moreno (Cuban-American).

• Enodis Global Operation Center heads up the US operations for UK-based parent company Enodis plc. Enodis is a food equipment company that manufactures commercial cooking and refrigeration equipment used by fast-food chains, hotels, institutions, and food retailers.

• Foreign Trade Standards of Miami is the head North American office of Intertek Testing Services. Foreign Trade Standards conducts pre-shipment inspection and standards testing.

• Florida RF Labs has offices in Stuart and is owned by Smiths Group plc, of the UK. Florida RF develops and manufactures high quality thin film microwave resistive products, and high reliability RF and microwave coaxial cable assemblies for both military and commercial applications.

• Grant Thornton is an international accounting and consulting firm. Its Miami office is in charge of both the Southeastern U.S. and the Latin American and Caribbean markets. A third of Grant Thornton business in South Florida is international.

• Hilton International is a division of British giant Hilton Group and owns the right to the Hilton brand outside the US. Hilton International opened its primary US office in Coral Gables in 1987.

• HSBC Bank USA, headquartered in London, is one of the largest financial services organizations in the world. Through its Miami office, HSBC provides financial services, including personal, commercial, investment and private banking; trade finance; cash management; treasury and capital markets services; insurance; consumer and business finance; trustee services; and pension fund management.

• Kamino International Transport is a logistics services company, offering storage and distribution as well as supply-chain management with sales and marketing support. Kamino has an office in Miami, Florida.

• LEA International Inc. has its corporate office in Tampa. It is a subsidiary of the Smiths Group, a UK holding company. LEA designs surge suppressors for industrial and private consumers.

• Lloyds TSB Bank is the No. 1 foreign bank in Florida, with $4.2 billion in assets. The Miami office offers not only financial services, but is also a processing center. More than fifty managers serving the Latin American markets work out of the group’s Miami office.

• Mivan Inc. is based in Northern Ireland and specializes in Telecommunications Network Rollouts, Interiors, Theming, Formwork and General Contracting. The Orlando office is Mivan’s North American headquarters, managing all themed construction within North America.

• Ogilvy & Mather and Ogilvyone Worldwide each have offices in Coral Gables, offering design, research, public relations, identity, retail marketing, sales promotion and new media. WPP Group, the parent company, is the third-largest advertising firm in the world, servicing more Fortune 500 companies than any other.

• Optronic Laboratories, owned by Gooch & Housego of the UK, is headquartered in Orlando where it designs and manufactures research-grade light measurement solutions.

• Pace Micro Technology PLC has its headquarters for the Americas in Boca Raton. This facility incorporates advanced engineering, sales, marketing, network support and other key customer services. This office supports customers in the Americas and regional offices in Mexico, Brazil, and California.

• Proudfoot Consulting Company is a subsidiary of UK-based Management Consulting Group plc. The company offers services such as process redesign, people solutions, and implementation. One of its two North American offices is located in Palm Beach Gardens.

• Securicor New Century is the US division of Securicor, a UK-based provider of security services. The company transfers cash and valuables, operates prisons, and supplies staffing in more than 30 countries. Securicor has been present in Florida since 1996 and employs approximately 250 people.

• Smiths Industries Aerospace & Defense Systems, Inc. has two offices in Florida, in Clearwater and Pompano Beach.

• Wood Group Turbopower is part of a turboprop engine service and overhaul business based in the UK. The company operates a modern facility near Miami International Airport.
