Enterprise Florida, U.S. Commercial Service pave way to RepCan
for smaller companies

An annual tradeshow, RepCan opens doors to Canadian distribution channels

 

   ORLANDO, FL (April 29, 2010) – Enterprise Florida has teamed with the U.S. Commercial Service to offer opportunities to small-to-medium sized (fewer than 500 employees), export-ready manufacturers to develop commercial relationships with potential Canadian agents, distributors and end-users.

The setting will be RepCan, an annual tradeshow to be held June 14-15 in Toronto and Montreal June 16-17, which introduces U.S. new-to-market firms to the Canadian market.  “This event has been responsible for many now age-old and lucrative business relationships between companies on both sides of the border, and particularly in Florida,” said Manny Mencía, Enterprise Florida’s senior vice president overseeing its international trade division. 

Enterprise Florida is coordinating RepCan participation by Florida companies, and it will include:

• Pre-arranged meetings with pre-qualified distributors that have expressed interest in selling the company’s product (or service)

• Networking receptions

• Exhibit booth (A display table )

• A briefing on doing business with Canada

• A free listing on the Commercial Service RepCan (Canada) Web site

• Follow-up support from Enterprise Florida and its Canada office.

• Canada FUSE (Featured U.S. Exporter) promotion

Registration is open to 10 qualifying companies on a first-come/first-served basis.  Targeted participants are new-to-market and new-to-export manufacturers in the following industry sectors:

 • Aerospace and defense products and technologies

 • Consumer products
 • Agriculture machinery and equipment • Electrical power systems
 • Alternative energy products and technologies • General industrial machinery
 • Automotive parts and service equipment • Medical devices
 • Building products • Oil and gas field machinery
 • Computer hardware and software  • Security/safety equipment
  • Telecommunications equipment

The fee is $1,250.  Participants are responsible for the cost of their airfare, lodging and ground transportation, which can be arranged through Enterprise Florida. 

Canada is the top export market for 35 states, with 52 percent of its imports coming from the U.S.  In 2009, U.S.-Canada two-way trade exceeded $1.2 billion daily.  According to Canada and Florida:  An Economic Impact Study, Canada is Florida’s number-one international economic partner, number-one source of in-bound tourism and number-one partner in terms of total origin trade.
